Where the hell is Aero Peek?

By calejo on January 17th, 2009

So, lately I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and turned out to be the right choice, but one of the best features 7 has, it is Aero Peek the new UI.

Though I had the latest drivers, I didn’t find a way to enable it. And I had 3.5 in my assessment test, so everything indicated that was possible to enable it.

So I did the following steps and voilá!

  1. Make sure that Windows Experience Index has been calculated and computed.
  2. Click on Start menu.
  3. Type the following text into the Start Search box:

    Aero

  4. Click on a search result listing under Control Panel group that named as the following:

Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects

Trick: If you don’t see “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” in the search results, click on Control Panel to see all Aero related items in Control Panel.

  5. An “Aero – Troubleshoot computer problems” wizard dialog will appear. Click on Next button.

  6. The troubleshooting wizard will try to detect any problem by running a series of checks against various components required to make Aero works and running, such as video memory, Desktop Windows Manager (DWM) service, color depth, theme, power settings and etc. At the end of the analysis, the wizard will attempt to fix the issues related to Aero service and restart the Aero feature.

Tip: If there is still items that are marked with red cross which indicates is the problems that prevent Aero from working properly, fix the issues and then rerun the “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” troubleshooting wizard again.

By calejo on January 17th, 2009

Microsoft has launched a new site dedicated to desktop personalization of Windows 7. The access it pretty simple, you simply need to be on the Desktop area, click on the right button and select "Personalize > Get More Themes Online". You'll be redirected to a new site where are available 15 themes, 13 wallpapers, 8 gadgets and 5 gadgets for SideShow (in this case, in devices compatible with Windows Sideshow).

Microsoft says that the final version of Windows 7 will have even more options that allow you to customize the new operating system.

A new Microsoft

By calejo on September 29th, 2008

It’s a late post but I would like to talk about a little about the new ad campaign that Microsoft is launching to try to change some mentalities about itself.

It’s well know that Microsoft is not the “dearest” company around the world but surely tries to change that and now more than ever after the contract that we made with Alex Bogusky and it’s company Crispin Porter + Bogusky, it’s a refreshing start in the way Microsoft can get into people lives. Here you can read an interesting interview that Fast Magazine did to Alex.

The first two ads didn’t work so right. The idea was to get people proximate the reality and make them see that our products were as good or even better than any other… with a little touch of comedy. Well in my opinion, this didn’t work so right cause Jerry Seinfeld was an 80′s icon… but just that. But it turned out ok, cause it made people starting to talk about it.

But as it didn’t work, Microsoft had to change to the second plan… and this was the “Windows vs Walls” campaign:

But it wasn’t enough… people needed to identify with the PC and Microsoft need to fight against the image created by Apple with the PC vs Mac campaign. And it surely it’s working from my point of view… it’s clear that Microsoft intends people to identify more with itself and for amount of videos that people are creating to the “I’m a PC” campaign, it sure explains why the company is changing.
